Roger Williams Park Botanical Center OR online

It's our 40th anniversary!

We're offering two ways you can join us to celebrate: in-person May 18th or online May 19th.

May 18th at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center

Join us for an evening of outdoor networking and discussing major legislation in Rhode Island to phase out gasoline, switch our electricity to 100% renewable by 2030, and more.

Take a look at electric cars, enjoy food, drinks, and giveaways from Rhode Island businesses, and hear from our policy team.

5-7pm

Tickets: $10. Proof of vaccination is required and masking is strongly encouraged.

May 19th on Zoom:

Come chat with us about climate progress in Rhode Island. We'll share an uplifting message from Senator Whitehouse just for our supporters. Then we'll break into three discussion groups to cover:

  • the Electric Transportation Act
  • 100% renewable electricity by 2030
  • Green community choice electricity

12-1pm

The hot topics:

Phasing out gasoline: The Electric Transportation Act (H7653/S2448) would create a process to plan infrastructure for cleaner cars, trucks, and public transportation to help us reduce emissions 45% by 2030. Following Rhode Island’s withdrawal from the Transportation and Climate Initiative, the bill represents a new approach to tackling pollution from the region’s largest source of emissions.

100% renewable electricity: The Renewable Energy Standard requires Rhode Island’s electric suppliers, including the electric utility, to include a rising minimum percentage of renewable energy in Rhode Islanders' electricity. But it's rising too slowly! S2274/H7277 would update the RES to make sure we reach 100% renewable electricity by 2030.

Green Municipal Aggregation/Green community choice electricity: In late 2022, several cities and towns in Rhode Island will be have community choice aggregation programs up and running to green up their electricity supply. We’ll give you a status report, celebrate those communities and talk about how your city or town can join the movement.

We hope to see you at one or both of these celebrations!
