The Solar Bank program aims to support low- and moderate-income households in Massachusetts by providing approximately $500 worth of credits to the recipient’s electric bill over the course of several months. The energy for this program is being generated at the Discovery Museum in Acton, which was developed by our partner organization, Resonant Energy. As we acquire a certain share of that output from the project, we distribute electricity bill credits to the participants of this program. Participating in this program is both at no cost to the recipient and does not require the installation of solar panels on one’s property.
Eligibility
To be considered for this program, one must 1) be serviced by Eversource 2) be on the R2 electric rate for low-income households. Those who have at least one household member who is 62 or older, 18 or younger, or disabled will be prioritized.
If you are unsure whether or not you are on the R2 rate, check out your electric bill from Eversource! Your rate would be located on the second page under your service address in a blue box.
Program Benefits
The benefit of this program would be money off your electric bill in the form of net metering credits. Once enrolled in the program, one would be able to see on the ‘Other Charges or Credits’ section of their utility bill a line that reads ‘Net Meter Credit Received’, which would reflect whatever the monetary amount of credits is for that month.

These credits can also accumulate overtime, and although this may not apply to everyone, some can even experience a negative balance on their bill due to the accrual of net metering credits that would be applied to their account, resulting in no necessary payment to be made.

Apply Now
In order to be enrolled in this program, we would need your electric account number and general information (name, address, contact information). Eligible participants would need to sign and return two forms, which would be distributed electronically and by mail upon request.
Form 1: SMART Participant Disclosure Form (required by the Mass. Department of Energy Resources), which allows one to receive net metering credits and clarifies the terms of the offer (including paying nothing and having flexible termination).
Form 2: Solar Equity Platform (SEP) Agreement Form, an authorization to set up the credit transfers to their accounts, which is required by our partner Resonant Energy for the enrollment of the individual and notes the obligation to share access to utility bill data.
If interested, please fill out our interest form to express your interest in the Solar Bank and join the waitlist! We do have limited availability for the Solar Bank program per enrollment period, but we will reach out to individuals on the waitlist should positions open.
