Our Advocacy Agenda

At Green Energy Consumers Alliance, our policy work supports our non-profit mission: To empower consumers and communities to speed a just transition to a zero-carbon world. In both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, we lobby for laws and regulations that make clean energy more affordable and accessible to all.

We think of the energy economy as having three main pillars – electricity, buildings, and transportation.

Electricity

We push for zero-emission power, namely wind and solar, supported by electricity storage systems (e.g. batteries).

Buildings

The cheapest and cleanest energy is the energy we don’t use. We are for better efficiency programs, building performance standards, appliance codes, and updated building codes. And electrification is vital. That means we need more heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, induction stoves, and electric clothes dryers.

Transportation

Transportation is the number one source of greenhouse gas emissions. We're advocating for better public transit, electric vehicles of all types (cars, trucks, buses), and safer walking and biking.

Today’s energy system is a lot different than that of 20 years ago, and it will need to continually evolve over time.

We keep up with new technologies, markets, and policy ideas. You will continue to hear from us on topics such as grid modernization, load management and peak shaving, rate reform, virtual power plants, non-wires alternatives, non-pipe alternatives, and carbon pricing.

Environmental Justice

Our historic dependence on fossil fuels has disproportionately harmed low- income communities and people of color. We support remedies to that injustice and prioritize policies that fairly share the benefits and costs of clean energy.
