Advanced Clean Cars in Rhode Island

Several states have committed to adopting California's Advanced Vehicle Emission Standards, Rhode Island must be next. There are two main standards under California's new advanced vehicle emission standards that will impact RI:

  1. Advanced clean cars 2 (ACC-II). It steadily increases the % of zero emission vehicles that automakers are required to sell until they hit 100% in 2035. It essentially phases out gas powered cars by 2035.
  2. Advanced clean trucks (ACT). Steadily increase the % of zero emission trucks that automakers must sell, but the sales % target varies based on the size & type of the truck & none of them are required to hit 100%

These are both crucial to RI as transportation is the largest source of GHG emissions in the state (36% of total emissions). Gas powered cars & trucks make up a majority of those emissions. Vehicles are also responsible for public health hazards as they release particulate matter & nitrogen dioxides that's been known to cause cancer & exacerbate asthma. Therefore, adopting these standards is both a Climate & public health imperative.

Join us and our legislative guests, State Senator Alana DiMario and State Representative Terri Cortvriend, as we discuss how adopting standards such as Advanced Clean Cars 2 and Advanced Clean Trucks will benefit Rhode Islanders and ensure we meet our climate goals.
